John and Cindy Barnhardt Fund

You may donate to the John and Cindy Barnhardt Fund in memory of John and Cindy.  Anyone may donate funds to the account by designating “John Barnhardt Memorial Fund” in the note section of their check.  Funds will be deposited into a separate account. Funds will be used to pay for sponsorship of clients who are unable to pay for their own meals, a cause that was very close to John’s heart, as well as operations of the organization.

John and Cindy Barnhardt were a very integral part of Cabarrus Meals on Wheels for over 20 years.  John was a local business owner who sat on the Board of Directors for several years.  He was a vital part of the growth of Cabarrus Meals on Wheels and it was his dream to see that all seniors have a meal.  After his passing in December 2006, his wife Cindy took over his seat on the Board and worked tirelessly to fulfull John's dream.  Before Cindy's death in June 2008, she set up the John Barnhardt Fund for Meals on Wheels so their dream could live on.

Take the Pledge

mowaa tablecloth 004By taking this pledge you are committing to help Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) end senior hunger by 2020.

You can be a leader in this national movement by volunteering for a local Meals On Wheels program, generating awareness about the problem of senior hunger in America, making a donation, sharing your story, providing ideas about how we as a country can end senior hunger together by 2020, and by doing anything else that you can to provide The Next Meal “so no senior goes hungry.”®

Mayors For Meals

mayor padgett2Mayors For Meals is a component of March For Meals that utilizes the involvement of local mayors. Mayors and other local officials deliver meals on one day in March to show their support of their local senior nutrition program.

March for Meals

marchformeals2March is designated as National Meals on Wheels Month.  Show your support by volunteering to deliver meals, donating to our March for Meals campaign, or by encouraging a senior to try our program.  Our agency depends on the help we receive from our community.  Without you we would not be able to meet our mission of ending senior hunger in Cabarrus County.

March For Meals is an annual national campaign to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on a local level. Senior nutrition programs across the United States promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.

The campaign takes place in the month of March because it was during this month that the law was enacted that included senior meal programs in the Older Americans Act.

This year’s March For Meals campaign will also celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the inclusion of Senior Nutrition Programs in the Older Americans Act (OAA). The OAA is the primary piece of federal legislation that authorizes and supports vital nutrition services, both congregate and Meals On Wheels, to Americans age 60 and older.

Canned Food Drive

canned foodEach year we provide an emergency hunger relief package for our clients.  We would like to give all clients an emergency food bag but we need your help to do so.  The number of bags we distribute is dependent on the amount of canned food items we receive.  These packages are filled with non-perishable food items to be used in the event of an emergency such as inclement weather or any other emergency situation that would prevent the delivery of hot meals by CMOW.

The can foods are donated by civic organizations, churches, schools, and individuals. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed food to this project.
Local girl scouts come and pack over 300 bags in early November.

Any organization or individual that would be interested in donating food items please contact Lisa Church at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
